Holly J. Humphrey, M.D. Elected Chair of American Board of Internal Medicine Board of Directors

Holly J. Humphrey, M.D., Professor of Medicine and Dean for Medical Education at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, has been elected Chair of the American Board of Internal Medicine Board of Directors. Dr. Humphrey's one-year term became effective July 1.

In her role as Dean for Medical Education, Dr. Humphrey oversees the undergraduate medical education of students at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, and the graduate medical education of residents and fellows in all training programs sponsored by the University of Chicago Hospitals.

Dr. Humphrey received her medical degree from the University of Chicago and continued her postgraduate work there, completing a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine. She is board certified in internal medicine.

Midwest Palliative & Hospice CareCenter Announces The Dr. Martha L. Twaddle Chair of Palliative Medicine

Martha L. Twaddle, M.D., FACP, FAAHPM, Chief Medical Officer, Midwest Palliative & Hospice CareCenter, was recently honored in the naming of CareCenter’s inaugural endowed Martha L. Twaddle, M.D., Chair of Palliative Medicine. The endowment provides a critical foundation for the CareCenter’s educational programs in professional education. Dr. Twaddle was so honored because of her longtime dedication to CareCenter and to advancing palliative medicine—a commitment that has gained her national recognition. Dr. Twaddle is the first physician to occupy the chair, which is the highest honor the organization can bestow upon a physician. Dr. Twaddle was the inaugural recipient of the AAHPM’s Josefina B. Magno Distinguished Hospice Physician Award in January 2005. She also received the Stephen A. Weisman Humanitarian Award for Cancer Care in 2001 from the Cancer Wellness Center.

Alexian Rehabilitation Hospital Appoints New Administrative Medical Director

Michael Berkowitz, M.D. has been appointed Administrative Medical Director of Alexian Rehabilitation Hospital. In this new role, Dr. Berkowitz oversees rehabilitation services, including the rehabilitation programs of Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, and St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, and the day rehabilitation program at Alexian Rehabilitation Hospital.

Dr. Berkowitz specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation with an emphasis on neurological and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. He is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation.

Prior to joining Alexian Rehabilitation Hospital, Dr. Berkowitz was executive medical director of outpatient services for the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago's hospitals and clinics. Before joining RIC, Dr. Berkowitz was a clinical assistant professor at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis.
