St. James Physician/Researcher Named Officer of International Wound Care Association
William J. Ennis, D.O., M.B.A., internationally recognized wound care specialist and leading researcher at St. James Hospital, was recently named President Elect of the Association of Advancement of Wound Care (AAWC) at the organization’s annual symposium. Dr. Ennis is Medical Director of the St. James Center for Comprehensive Wound Care. He is an osteopath who is board-certified in three specialties, including general surgery, vascular surgery and family medicine. Dr. Ennis, a leading researcher and pioneer in the field, has published more than 30 scientific papers and won several awards. Dr. Ennis’ research team has published scientific papers from more than 50 research trials since the program’s inception. A member of numerous medical associations, Dr. Ennis has a medical degree in osteopathic medicine from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, New York Institute of Technology. He also has a Master’s in Business Administration from Keller Graduate School of Management in Chicago.

Dr. Salgia Named 2006 Lung Cancer Discovery Award Winner
Representatives of the McMullen Foundation, LUNGevity Foundation and the American Lung Association of Metropolitan Chicago recently presented Dr. Ravi Salgia of the University of Chicago with the 2006 Lung Cancer Discovery Award for research into the use of heat shock proteins as a therapeutic approach to cancer management.

Oak Brook Resident Joseph G. Leija, M.D. Wins Prestigious Public Service Award
At this year’s annual meeting of the Chicago Medical Society, Oak Brook Resident Joseph G. Leija, M.D. received this year’s Henrietta Herbolsheimer, M.D., Public Service Award. Dr. Leija was recognized for this award due to his dedication to the allergy sufferers of the Chicagoland area. Every day for the past 9 years, Dr. Leija has taken pollen counts on the roof of Gottlieb Memorial Hospital, providing the information via several toll-free hotlines he has established (1-866-4-POLLEN in English, 1-866-ALERGIA in Spanish). He has also been providing free asthma screenings and lung function tests at church functions and other community locations, primarily in underserved Latino communities.
