Beverly Malone Named NLN CEO

National League for Nursing (NLN) CEO Dr. Ruth Corcoran and NLN president Dr. Toni Bargagliotti recently announced the appointment of Beverly Malone to the position of chief executive officer upon Dr. Corcoran’s retirement in 2007.

Dr. Malone will step down as general secretary of the Royal College of Nursing in January 2007 after nearly six years. During her tenure, membership of the RCN rose to 390,000, making it the largest trade union for nurses in the world. Prior to joining the college, she served as deputy assistant secretary of health in the US Department of Health and Human Services. From 1996 to 1999, Dr. Malone served as president of the American Nurses Association, acting as liaison between leaders and policymakers within the association, across government, and throughout the health care field

Loyola University Health System CEO Announces Retirement

Loyola University Health System President and CEO, Dr. Anthony Barbato, announced his intention to retire after a 17-year tenure of leadership. Barbato indicated that he would continue to serve until a successor is named. "My Loyola years have been the most rewarding experiences in my professional life. But the time is right for transitioning the leadership of the Medical Center and Health System," he said. After serving as dean of Loyola's Stritch School of Medicine, he was appointed the university's chief administrative officer for the medical center from 1989 to 1995. He was named president and CEO of the medical center and health system in 1995 as it was reorganized as a separate subsidiary corporation of Loyola University Chicago. Since 1989, he has also held a senior academic position in the university as vice president for the health sciences.

During Barbato's tenure, Loyola developed a broadly distributed network of ambulatory care satellites; opened the Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center; constructed a new medical education facility, the John and Herta Cuneo Center, for the medical school; added the new 300,000-square-foot Loyola Outpatient Center on the Maywood campus; and broke ground for a 240,000-square-foot major hospital expansion, currently underway. He has served nationally in a variety of leadership roles including past chair of the Association of Academic Health Centers and current chair of the board of Cincinnati-based Catholic Healthcare Partners.

Fred Rachman, M.D. Takes the Helm as CEO of Alliance of Chicago Community Health Centers

The Alliance of Chicago Community Health Services announced today that Fred D. Rachman, M.D, has been appointed CEO, effective immediately. Dr. Rachman also serves as Chief Medical Officer of the Alliance.

Dr. Rachman has more than 20 years experience in primary health care delivery and administration, and extensive experience in grants and project managements. He previously served as Medical Director at Howard Brown Health Center and Erie Family Health Center, Chicago. He is Attending Physician in Pediatrics at Children’s Memorial Hospital and Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and has been a Joint Commission field representative since 1998, trained under the Accreditation Manual for Ambulatory Care. He conducts ambulatory care surveys, including unified surveys federal Effectiveness Review under the Bureau of Primary Health Care's (BPHC) Primary Care Accreditation Initiative, and provides field education for JCAHO.
