Inna Makievsky Named Vice President of Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer at St. Francis Hospital
St. Francis Hospital & Health Center in Blue Island announces the appointment of Inna Makievsky as vice president of Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer. Makievsky worked as a naval architect in the Ukraine. She later served as director of risk management/quality at the General Children’s Hospital in Kherson, Ukraine. Her experience includes nursing management and staff nurse positions at Jewish Hospital, CARITAS Medical Center and Norton Hospital, all of which are located in Louisville, KY. She came to St. Francis Hospital & Health Center from Scott Memorial Hospital in Scottsburg, IN, where she was vice president of nursing services. Inna Makievsky,R.N., has a master’s degree in business administration from Indiana Wesleyan University, a BSN from the University of Louisville, and a master’s degree in engineering from the University of Nikolaev in the Ukraine.

Carl Voelcker Appointed Vice President of Development for Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and Lutheran General Children’s Hospital
Carl Voelcker has been appointed vice president of development for Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and Advocate Lutheran General Children’s Hospital. Voelcker will be responsible for the overall development and major gift efforts for the many programs and projects philanthropy touches at the hospital. By strengthening donor relationships and furthering volunteer partnerships, he will lead the site foundation team in expanding this vital role. An experienced fund-raising and communications executive, Voelcker previously served as executive director of development for the National Safety Council as well as senior director of development for the Lance Armstrong Foundation where he instituted the LiveStrong/Wear Yellow campaign, which has raised over $50 million. He also was director of development for principal gifts for the MD Anderson Cancer Center, one of the nation’s top two cancer hospitals. Voelcker earned a bachelor’s of science degree in broadcasting from the University of Florida and a master’s of arts degree in mass communications from Auburn University. He also received certification as a fund raising executive from the Association of Fund Raising Professionals, of which he is a member. Additional affiliations include the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education and the National Committee on Planned Giving.

Shastri Swaminathan, M.D. Elected Chicago Medical Society President
This year’s annual meeting of the Chicago Medical Society saw the election of Shastri Swaminathan, M.D., as the new president of the Society for the 2006-2007 year. In addition to his leadership roles with the Society, Dr. Swaminathan is a past president of the Illinois Psychiatric Society and past president of the Indian Medical Association. He is currently one of the representatives from the Illinois Psychiatric Society to the American Psychiatric Association’s assembly. A board certified Psychiatrist, Dr. Swaminathan earned his medical degree at the prestigious All India Institute for Medical Sciences, New Delhi, and completed his residency at Northwestern University. Dr. Swaminathan is on the faculty of the University of Illinois as a Clinical Associate Professor, and is the Medical Director of Inpatient Psychiatric Services at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, with a full-time private practice.
