Latson Named Director of VITAS Access Initiatives

Sharon Latson has joined VITAS Innovative Hospice Care® as senior director of access initiatives.

Latson brings a wealth of experience in community relations and outreach to diverse populations. She has worked at the forefront of awareness for hospice care and advance care planning in communities of color. Latson coordinated the outreach campaign for the critically acclaimed 2000 national PBS broadcast of On Our Own Terms: Moyers on Dying. In addition, Latson secured major funding and served as the director for The Last Miles of the Way Home: A National Conference to Improve End-of-Life Care for African Americans. She also headed a national project for the development of a culturally sensitive end-of-life curriculum for health care providers titled A Progressive Palliative Care Educational Curriculum for the Care of African Americans at Life's End (APPEAL).

Latson serves on the boards of directors of the Foundation for Hospices in Sub-Saharan Africa, Women Living with Pain Initiative and the Intercultural Cancer Council.

She holds a bachelor's degree in public relations from Columbia College in Chicago.

New Chief Executive Officer Joins Holy Family Medical Center

John D. Baird has joined Holy Family Medical Center as Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer.

Baird spent the previous nine years in senior leadership positions at Select Medical Corporation. Most recently, he served as Chief Executive Officer at Select Specialty Hospital in Cincinnati, OH.

Baird holds bachelor’s degrees in biology and history as well as a master’s degree in health administration, all from Duke University in Durham, NC. He is also member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Amy Cannizzo-Brennan Promoted to Vice President, Clinical Services, Midwest Palliative & Hospice CareCenter

Amy Cannizzo-Brennan, MS, RN, of Deerfield, Illinois, has been promoted to Vice President of Clinical Services for Midwest Palliative & Hospice CareCenter from Senior Clinical Director. Amy has been with the organization (formerly Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of the North Shore) since May of 2003. She was Senior Clinical Director over Home Health, Admissions, Medical Home Visits, Palliative Care Consults and HomeCare Assistants. She will retain her current responsibilities but will now also supervise the organization’s three Regional Directors.
