Saint Xavier Associate Dean Selected for Academic Nursing Program
Kay Thurn, associate dean for graduate nursing at Saint Xavier University in Chicago, has been selected for the highly competitive American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s Leadership for Academic Nursing Program. The fellowship aims to develop and enhance the leadership skills of new and emerging administrators in baccalaureate and graduate nursing programs and prepare them to accept academic leadership positions of increasing responsibility. The yearlong professional development program includes an intense educational program and work with a mentor throughout the year. Through the program, Thurn will acquire increased leadership skills as the University and School of Nursing launches new approaches to liberal arts education and interdisciplinary collaboration, while developing strategies using limited financial resources to foster and promote change. She also hopes to shape the school’s next strategic plan by evaluating the outcomes of the last three years and building on accomplishments. Thurn holds undergraduate and master’s degrees in nursing, and a doctoral degree in clinical psychology, for which she also is a licensed practitioner. She is a certified instructor in end-of-life care, which is the focus of her clinical practice. Throughout her time at Saint Xavier, she has held various administrative and leadership positions within the School of Nursing and University.
