CEO of Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital Receives Prestigious First-Time Award

Kathleen C. Yosko, President and CEO of Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital recently received the first ever INDE Award (Inspired Notable Dedicated Efforts), created this year by the American Medical Rehabilitation Providers Association (AMPRA) to honor an individual or group, who has had a direct positive impact on the medical rehabilitation field and the people they serve.

Yosko's indefatigable advocacy on behalf of rehabilitation, spanning more than 30 years of service, began with her work as a nurse rehabilitating soldiers injured in Vietnam. Having served as President and CEO of two of the three freestanding comprehensive rehabilitation hospitals in Illinois, Schwab and Marianjoy, Yosko has been a tireless promoter of the benefits of rehabilitation, while also championing efforts to reduce disability through preventative measures.

Both Schwab and Marianjoy have benefited from growth under her leadership. First Schwab – and now Marianjoy – have thrived to the point of undertaking the construction of expansion projects and new hospital buildings in a challenging reimbursement climate for rehabilitation services.

Amidst these accomplishments, Yosko has found time to also advocate for people with disabilities. At Marianjoy, she was the creative force behind AbilityLinks, an innovative and nationally-recognized Internet job-matching program for people with disabilities and employers. At Schwab, which is located in an urban area, she worked tirelessly to reduce the tragic toll of violence that leads to serious disabilities. For this work, she has been recognized by leading government officials at the highest levels and been the recipient of numerous awards and honors.
